People who pretend reading a lot is something special. Or that people who don’t read a lot are somehow less special. People who pretend that book stores are something magical and the smell of books is infectious blahblah. Reading is something you do or don’t do. You’re either raised to rely on reading as a pass time, or you’re not. It actually has no reflection on your ability or level of interesting-ness. You aren’t special because you read in public places. Some of us read 35 books for their ap classes in high school and then went to college and had to read scientific articles for 5 years, and then got out and have to work 289457 hours a week and have no time to read. And books aren’t the only things that can be read, the news, magazines, blogs, they all can fit nicely into peoples lives, and just because I haven’t read “Pride and Prejudice” (I have, it’s just an example) doesn’t make me any less intelligent or interesting. I think this is up there with grammar policing on my list of pet peeves. Reading is good for you, yeah, but it doesn’t make you special and stop using it as a pick up line.
Things that bother me.
